Principals Letter February 4th, 2022

Greetings, 

This week began our school’s launch of Black History Month.  The staff came together to speak about how Black history is American history and should not only be celebrated in February but fully integrated into our curriculum and teaching.  Over the next month, the school will begin to integrate Gholdy Muhammad’s 5 pursuits into unit plans for the rest of the year.   

Middle school applications are now open.  5th grade families should have received either a letter in the mail or an email providing next steps for applying.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Tina Mo (ymo2@schools.nyc.gov).  Jessica Espinobarros, the guidance counselor  will be at our PTA meeting next Tuesday to answer any questions around middle school in the chat.  Middle school applications must be submitted by March 1st.

Reminders: 

  • At home COVID tests are available for pick up from safety agents.  Just ask. 
  • Our attendance team is working with families to offer COVID testing, vaccine pop ups, afterschool,  housing support, mental health or counseling for students,  and transportation.  If you have questions or concerns around attendance, reach out to Jessica Espinobarros, our guidance counselor (jespinobarros2@schools.nyc.gov)
  • If you have to report a student who has tested positive, please use this Form.

Esta semana comenzó el lanzamiento del Mes de la Historia Negra en nuestra escuela. El personal se reunió para hablar sobre cómo la historia negra es historia americana y no solo debe celebrarse en febrero sino integrarse completamente en nuestro plan de estudios y enseñanza. Durante el próximo mes, la escuela comenzará a integrar las 5 actividades de Gholdy Muhammad en los planes de clases para el resto del año.

Las solicitudes para la escuela intermedia ya están abiertas.
