In a recent New York Times article, PS 20 Anna Silver Elementary was highlighted for its role in helping new migrants arriving in New York City. Every week, our school cafeteria serves as a welcome center, where families who have made long and difficult journeys from Venezuela and other parts of Latin America can find essential support. From clothing and hot meals to legal assistance and haircuts, the center provides critical resources to help them start their new lives.

One migrant, Yicel Rondon, shared her experience in the article: “We came here with nothing — just the clothes we were wearing and our documents.” At PS 20, they were met by volunteers who understand their journey and are committed to helping them get settled. Our community is proud to be part of this ongoing effort to provide a safe and supportive environment for all who arrive.
