Our Vision & Values

What We Stand For

Our school motto: We will take care of ourselves and each other.

The PS 20 Vision is for all of us to deepen our understanding of the following four ideas (we call them ‘seeds’) and help them to grow every day: Wellness, Cultural Intelligence, Clarity and Precision, and Innovation

Together we will:

Be Well
Making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life,
Be Culturally Intelligent
Learning from multiple perspectives and growing in our understanding of others
Be Clear and Precise
Thinking and communicating accurately, and supporting our thinking with evidence
Be Innovative
Inciting curiosity, collaborative problem solving, and independent thinking.
Our School

We Are Committed to Growing Strong, Diverse, and Empathic Global Citizens

PS 20 Anna Silver Elementary is a Pre K-5th elementary school located in the Lower East Side in District 1.

It is an un-zoned school and is one of only a handful of schools offering dual-language programs in both Mandarin and Spanish.

We have a strongly diverse community of families that reflect the social, economic, and cultural diversity that is NY. We are currently a Title I school.

Enrichment Partners

We bring experts from all over the city to PS 20 to share their passion for the arts, music, food-making, theater, and a host of other disciplines.

Anja Dance Company – New York’s premier Indian dance company.
Turtle Bay Music School – Providing the highest quality music education and experiences to all New Yorkers who seek them.
Wellness in the Schools – Visiting chefs teach kids to cook and eat healthily.

School Food

At PS20, we serve the K-8 Breakfast Menu, and the K-8 Alternative Lunch Menu (healthier versions of the main menu). Both meals are free for all students.

No pork is served at PS 20, so when there is a pork item on the menu, we replace it with a turkey alternative.

The menus are posted on the NYC DOE’s School Food site.

School Wellness Council

A School Wellness Council (SWC) is an advisory group concerned with the health and well being of students, staff, and the school community. School Wellness Councils are a great way for parents/guardians and parent associations to participate in implementing City and school wellness policies by either serving on the SWC or volunteering with its programs and subcommittees.

Our PS 20 Wellness Council is an award-winning team of parents, staff, and students.

Garden Committee

Our Wellness Council is starting a Garden Subcommittee! We will be continuing the quest for our rooftop garden and maintaining our tower gardens! We hope to see an assortment of student selected vegetables in the next 3 months – arugula, gourmet lettuce, sweet basil, bib lettuce, sweet bell peppers, rainbow Swiss chard and red cherry tomatoes.

Green Team

Our Wellness Council has a green team! The Green Team is a student-led group that helps support our school’s sustainability and recycling efforts! They also work with local environmental outreach groups to educate the students, parents, and community about recycling and sustainability.

Our School

Teachers & Staff

Our teachers bring a diverse breadth of skills, talents, and passions to the school; from art & music to science & technology; from PE & dance to gardening and the environment. They are the children’s strongest advocates.
