In an article from The New Yorker, PS 20, The Anna Silver School, was featured for being one of the first schools in New York City to host a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic for children aged 5 to 11.

The clinic kicked off on the first day of the city’s initiative, aimed at bringing vaccines directly to families in schools across the boroughs. Students and parents eagerly lined up early in the morning, waiting for their turn to get vaccinated in the school’s cafeteria. By mid-morning, the clinic had run smoothly, providing much-needed relief and protection for both kids and parents.

One PS 20 first grader, Julie Hilgers, was asked if she was happy she got the shot:

Yes. And I just feel, like, O.K., now I’m waiting for the next one so I can go see my cousins on Christmas.

As the clinic wrapped up, the school staff prepared to return the space to its usual lunchtime hustle, proud to have played a part in such an important citywide effort.
